SPACKMAN Family Lines England and Utah

1-JOHN SPACKMAN, the oldest ancestor of known intelligent Record was born in Wiltshire England in 1782, was married about 1802 to Susannah Orchard, also of English birth and about two years his Junior. Six children were born to them in Wiltshire England before her death there July 1, 1845, Viz:

3- JOHN SPACKMAN, born 1816@ Hilcot Wiltshire, Eng. Went to Australia and died in Addelaid 1894, was Bap., End., And Sealed in the Salt Lake, Temple February 1904.

4-JAMES SPACKMAN, B.1821 Hilcot Wiltshire, Eng., was foreman for Lord Elsford in Wiltshire, Eng., and Died there 1897, was Bap. End., And Sealed in Salt Lake Temple in Feb.1904.

5-WILLIAM SPACKMAN, b. Sept.15, 1823 in Wiltshire, England, where he grew and developed as a scientific Gardener and was noted as a lover of fine horses, and was an honored and trustworthy citizen of his native community. He was Baptized into the Latter Day Saints Church in 1854, He was married to Sarah Ward, daughter of William Ward and Ann Brown. She was born May 1, 1814 at Pewsey, Wiltshire, England. She was Baptized in her native land into the Mormon Church Dec.11 1852. Five children were born to them in their native land. The family emigrated to Utah in 1869, sailing August 25th from Liverpool on the Ship Minnesota in a company of 443 under the direction of Elder Ensign and arrived in New York September 6th and reached North Ogden ten days later, and made a permanent home there, and resumed his favorite occupation of gardening with farming and dairying added in a limit degree, though with marked success, and still showing his love for good horses. He and his good wife and their five children and other friends went to the Logan Temple and October 29th, 1890 had their Endowments and Sealings, and extended the work back along ancestral lines and lived to see the children grown up and married in good families before their death in North Ogden, hers December 5th, 1900 and his April 10th, 1902, and they both were buried in the North Ogden Cemetery.

6-JACOB SPACKMAN, fourth child of John Spackman and Susannah Orchard was born at Hilcot, Wiltshire, in 1827, where he grew to maturity. Went to Australia and entered into mining, made a fortune and returned to his Native Land. Married Elizabeth Pierce and lived in luxury and died there, 1897. He had his Baptism, endowment and Sealings in the Salt Lake Temple February 1904. He and his wife were the parents of two daughters.

7-DAMON SPACKMAN, fifth child of John Spackman and Susannah Orchard, born 1831 at Hilcot, Wiltshire, England were he grew to maturity and emigrated to Australia and died in Addelaide in 1891. He was given his Baptism, Endowment and Sealing in February 1904 in the Salt Lake Temple.

8-MARY SPACKMAN, born 1844 at Hilcot, Wiltshire, England. Married James Tilley and died 1871. She was Bap., End., and Sealed in Salt Lake Temple, 1904.

9-Rebecca King, born 1801, Hilcot, Wiltshire, England, became the Second wife of John Spackman, 1R. No children were born to them and she died Sept.15, 1864. She was given proxy Bap. End., And sealing in the Salt Lake Temple Feb. 1904.

26-B.R. Ellen Spackman, daughter of William Spackman and Sarah Ward was b. Aug. 22, 1848 at Pewsey, Wiltshire, England, emigrated with her parents when she was about 21 and settled down with them in North Ogden, was Baptized in 1869 by John Brown and was Confirmed by Henry Holmes. Jan.17, 1870 she was married to Joseph Orton and before her death bore him two children Viz:

Joseph, born Jan 21 1871 at N. Ogden and died there Jan. 30, 1871

Hyrum Jr. born Feb.15, 1872 at N. Ogden and died there the next day.

The Mother Died there Feb. 21, 1872. She was sealed to her parents in the Logan Temple Oct. 29, 1890.

27-BR-John Spackman, the second child of William Spackman and Sarah Ward Was born at Pewsey, Wiltshire, Eng. August 27, 1849. He was Baptized in his Native Land by F.C. Anderson and emigrated with his parents to Utah as noted under 5, page one of this Record and located with them at North Ogden when he was about 20 years of age.

He married Anna Anderson and One child, John William was born to them June 20, 1873. The parents became separated and he was reared in North Ogden by his Grandparents, William Spackman and Sarah where he grew up with fair opportunities of the Education and was Married to Eva Perry of Slaterville and located in North Ogden on his Grandfathers home, later occupied by Elijah Shaw N. West of the School grounds and later sold out and moved to Dewey V. The father John later married Elizabeth Ann Evans April 10 1876.

30-ELIZABETH ANN EVANS.

She is a daughter of William Evans and Catharine Perkins, born July 15, 1859 at Cwmbach, Glamorganshire, South Wales in a family of 16. She was Baptized into the L.D.S Ch. By Rhees Davis in her Native Land, her parents having already been members of the Church a number of years, and the daughter was Baptized at 8 years of age. The facilities for an Education in her native land afforded her a very limited opportunity for any thing better than the fundamentals of an education. At the age of eleven she had the painful experience of witnessing in her native land in a large canal of the drowning of her father, William Evans, Jan.22, 1870, leaving her mother a widow with a number of children. However she emigrated then to Utah, sailing on the Ship Nevada in a company of 263 Saints under the direction of John I. Hart, sailing from Liverpool, Sept.6, 1871, and arrived in New York the 18th and Ogden 27th and continued on to North Ogden and stopped for the winter with her Aunt Eliza Evans in what was later divided off and formed into the Pleasant View Ward July 9,1882.

April 10, 1876 she was married in the Salt Lake Endowment House by President Daniel H. Wells to JOHN SPACKMAN (See27 BR) and while a large family was being born and reared they lived at various places, the longest period of any place except N. Ogden was at Dayton, Oneida County, Idaho for 5 years. Her Husband held for many years the position in the Priesthood of an Elder, and at the time of his death 8 Mar 1921 at North Ogden held the position of an High Priest

40-BR-William Thomas Spackman, b. Feb.14,1877 at Dayton, Oneida County, Idaho, was a son of John Spackman and Elizabeth Ann Evans (27 & 29-BR) was raised on the farm in the various moving of the family, but he spent most of his life in N. Ogden, after having been Baptized in Pleasant View by Wilford E. Cragun and was confirmed by Bishop Amos Maycock, and in the N. Ogden Ward was Ordained an Elder by Oct. 24, 1904 by Bishop James Ward, and Two days later was Married in the Salt Lake Temple to Harriet Amelia Spackman, located in North Ogden, followed fruit growing for some years, but finally, disposed of his farm property, erected a modern home in North Ogden on first South and engaged in employment with the Southern Pacific R.R. Co. Children, 50, 51, 52 &53 were born to them. He served a number of years as Ward visiting Teacher.

49-BR-Harriet Amelia Berrett, daughter of Robert G. Berrett and Sarah Ann Woodhead was born at N. Ogden, Weber County, Utah Feb.12, 1878 as the 11th and last child, she was blesd in due time and June 6, 1886 she was baptized by her father and confirmed by Bishop Thomas Wallace and while data seems in accessible her life has been a very active one in Auxiliary, Civic and Social Organizations of the Ward, and having been given a fair Education in the schools of her day was able to show marked ability in her lines of work, coupled with her devotion and faith in the Religion she had espoused. She became quite zealous in Temple work, was in a measure custodian of the records of her ancestors on her mothers line and did much for their redemption.

50-BR-Ralph William Spackman, son of William T. and Harriet Spackman was born Sep.2, 1905, was blest in due time, Nov. 5, 1905 by M.N. Reynolds. Sept.7, 1913 was bap. By B.E. Chatelain and confirmed by James Ward. Was ordained a Deacon, Nov.11, 1917 by Lorenzo Jackson, a Teacher Jan.23, 1921 by Lewis A. Randall, and a Priest by Frederick Barker Feb.3,1924.

51-BR-Clyde Berrett Spackman, Born blest and died as above.

52-BR-Vernal Robert Spackman, b. May 5, 1911 at N. Ogden, Weber County, Utah was blest July 2, 1911 by Mormon N. Reynolds. He was baptized July 6, 1919 by Hyrum E. Judkins and Confirmed by John Q, Blaylock, He was Ordained a Deacon Jan. 27, 1924 by Lewis A. Randall. He was Ordained a Teacher Jan 17, 1916 by George E. Brown.

53-BR-Lelia Spackman, b of William T. and Harriet A. Spackman was born at N. Ogden, Weber County, Utah Jan. 1, 1915, was blest Feb.7, 1915 by Samuel Shaw, Baptized Jan.7, 1923 by Harvey L. Chandler and Confirmed by Frederick Barker.

41-BR- Sarah Catharine Spackman,

2nd child of John Spackman-27-BR and Elizabeth Ann Evans-39 BR was born at Dayton, Oneida County, Idaho Aug. 25-79 was blest and baptized in due time, became quite helpless from defects in her feet, but gained a fair education and became quite proficient in some lines of work, serving for some length of time as telephone Operator at the North Ogden Station. March 10, 1919 became the wife of Grover C. Brigham in Ogden, and Feb.25,1920 a son was born to them that was Blest in due time and named David Alma. Blest May, 2, 1925.

42-BR-Emma Gene Spackman,

third child of John and Elizabeth Spackman was born at N. Ogden, Weber County, Utah, Aug. 7, 1882 She was blest and baptized in due time, grew up to young womanhood in North Ogden, Utah and married John Andrew Clark son of Mary Jones Clark Oct. 10, 1900 in the Salt Lake Temple, located in N. Ogden in a home on First North that was later burned down, The property was purchased by Samuel M. Randall later on which a modern brick house was erected- 2 children were born to John Andrew and Emma Spackman Clark: Mary Leone Oct.18, 1912 and baby Clark, born dead. The family moved to Ogden and lived many years there in close proximity of the husbands work for the South Pacific Rail Road Co.

43-BR-David Henry Spackman,

4th child of John and Elizabeth Spackman, was born June 27, 1885, was Blest and Baptized in due time and given various orders of the Priesthood, engaged in service for the Southern Pacific Rail road Company. He married Gene Earl at Seattle; Three children were born to them: Berma, Oct. 11,1918; Earl D. July 10, 1920 and Hugh Kay, Feb.10,1924. ..Oct 15, 1917, parents were married.

44-BR-Joseph Parley Spackman,

5th child of John and Elizabeth Spackman was born in Pleasant View, Weber county, Utah, October 8, 1887, was Bap. July 2, 1892 in Pleasant View by Samuel S. Ferrin and Confirmed by Charles H. Rhees. He was ordained a Deacon Feb.12, 1905 by N.H. Barker: a Teacher Dec.8, 1907 by Frederick W. Ellis, July 18, 1909 a Priest by James Ward and later was Ordained an Elder and Dec. 16-09 was married in the Salt Lake Temple and located in North Ogden. Two children to him and his wife Emma Dean Spackman, daughter of George S. Dean and Alice S. Daniels Dean, respectively: Jessie Spackman, b. July 21, 1913 at N. Ogden, Weber county, Utah Elaine Spackman, b, Mar.
