Tom Deutsch shows Character Counts
Tom Deutsch was caught showing good character this month by the Character Counts Communication and Community Involvement Committee.
Deutsch has operated Tom's Family Pharmacy in New Hampton for 15 years. Earlier this month, Deutsch displayed the pillar of "CARING" as he went beyond the normal call of service.
When a customer's medication was abruptly cut off without notice, he called the manufacturer directly (working through several phone trees and three different levels of vendor representatives). After nearly 20 minutes of waiting, he discovered the company had stopped production and did not know when (or if) it would resume production.
When Deutsch asked what patients who were dependent on this medication were supposed to do, he was told that they needed to refer to their doctors. But after some research for alternatives and several phone calls back and forth to an Iowa City, Deutsch came up with a plan of action that made a life-changing difference in the life of the patient.
For living out the pillar of caring, the Character Counts Communication and Community Involvement Committee gave Deutsch a certificate of recognition and $40 in New Hampton Chamber Bucks.
According to Committee Chair Jess Throndson, "It is great to live in a community that not only talks the language of Character Counts, but sets a great example through what they do. Keep living out the pillars - you never know when you may be caught displaying great character!"
This year's Communication and Community Involvement Committee includes: Jess Throndson, Kendra Crooks, Darwin Sittig, Brenda Rodriguez, Erin Snyder, Becky Babcock, Rod Ankrom, Sara Dungey, Mary Frese, Reed Nelson and Tracy Blake. Together, they urge everyone to be a person of character who is trustworthy, treats others with respect, is responsible, practices fairness, is caring and compassionate and displays good citizenship traits.

This Memorial is a Tribute in recognition of our ancestor's sacrifices and hard work, which has allowed us to live the life which we have and to the suberb German & Irish heritage which has given us our values and humanity, but most of all our faith in God, and to the full blooded American heritage which has given us our zest for life and allows us to dream; for we live in a nation where we can achieve and accomplish anything!
