Will of   THOMAS POWELL 1793c - 1839  of Steep 

 

This is the last Will and Testament of me, THOMAS POWELL of Steep in the County of Southampton, Yeoman made whom of sound and dispoing mind, memory and understanding. Whereby I give devise and bequeath unto my friends HENRY WARNER of Hawkley in the County of Southampton, Yeoman and JOSEPH WELCH of Steep in the said County, Miller. All and singular my real and personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind so ever the same shall consist that I may be possessed of or interested in at the time of my decease upon Trust as soon as convenient after my decease to sell and dispose of the same either by public auction or private contract as to them shall seem most desirable and to collect, get in, and receive all my monies, debts and ser-----ies for money and to place out the whole of the proceeds arising from the sale of my said real and personal Estate and Effects and when collected and got in, as aforesaid and at Interest on Government or real Security, and also upon Trust in the first place to pay thereout the sum of Fifteen Pounds yearly and every year unto my Mother in Law AMEY UNDERWOOD of Priorsdeane in the County of Southampton, widow for and during the term of her natural life by half yearly payments and also upon Trust to pay the ------- of the said proceeds unto my dear wife ELIZABETH, for the support of herself and all and every the children that I may leave or that my said wife may be enc----te with at the time of my decease until the youngest of such children shall atain the age of  Twenty One years and as soon as that event shall happen. Then upon Trust to appropriate and set apart a sufficient sum to pay unto my said wife and annuity or yearly sum of Twenty Five pounds for and during the term of her natural life or widowhood and to pay and divide the residue and remainder thereof unto and equally between all and every my said children share and share alike and also upon Trust after the decease of my said Mother in Law and the decease or second marriage of my said wife to pay and divide the residue of my said monies unto and equally between my said children share and share alike and I do hereby direct that the receipt or receipts of my said Trustees or the survivor of them or the executors or administrators of such survivors shall be a good and sufficient discharge with purchaser or purchasers of all or any part of my said real and personal Estate and Effects and that my said Trustees shall be at liberty to reimberse themselves all such costs, charges and expenses as they may be put to in the execution of this my Will and that neitherof them shall be answerable for the acts deeds or defaults of the other of them and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said HENRY WARNER and JOSEPH WELCH, executor of this my Will and revoke all former wills. In Witness where of I have hereunto set my hand this Second day of January, One thousand eight hundred and thirty nine.

THOMAS POWELL died possessed of, did not exceed in value the sum of Eight hundred pounds to the best of their knowledge and belief.
