        May 5, 1852, John Burnham, of New Durham, Strafford County, New Hampshire, deposed:

        that his father, George Burnham, enlisted at Somerworth, N. H., under Capt. Wentworth, in 1775; was promoted to sergeant, and Sept. 20, 1775 to ensign, continuing to serve as such until his death in 1780; and that the commission filed with Department is the identical commission which was brought home by his father and has been in the possession of the family ever since.
        (The commission of George Burnham as ensign, 2nd N. H. regiment, to rank as such from Sept. 20, 1777, signed John Jay, Philadelphia, June 16, 1779, endorsed by his discharge, signed Tench Tilghman, ADC, dated Headquarters, Bergen County, July 8, 1780, is on file in the Department.)
        He also deposed that George Burnham received a severe wound in his leg which disabled him, caused him to be discharged and troubled him very much until the time of his death, which occurred Dec. 27, 1800;
        that his mother, whose maiden name was Sarah Rogers, was married to George Burnham, by Rev. Mr. Porter, May 5, 1770, and died March 25, 1837, aged 88 years; that she left two children surviving her: himself and Sally, wife of Joseph Rand.
Both Joseph and Sally are now dead and he is the only surviving child;
        that he can find no public record of the marriage of his parents but files a family record in the handwriting of George Burnham as proof of his statements.

        Town clerk of New Durham, N. H. certified that he could find no record of the marriage of George Burnham and Sarah Rogers on the books of the town.
        April 30, 1852, George B. Rand, of Alton, Belknap County, N. H., testified that he was 45 years of age April 7, 1852; that Sarah Burnham, widow of George Burnham, late of New Durham, N. H., died in his house in Alton, March 25, 1837, aged 85 or 86 years, and that he was present at her funeral.

        April 24, 1852, Jethro Berry, of New Durham, N.H., testified to death of George, at New Durham, and Sarah Burnham, and that John is the only surviving child, &c., and that deponent was 76 years of age, March 9, 1852.

        April 24, 1852, John Burnham, aged 77 years, Dec. 15, 1851, testified to the death of George Burnham, at New Durham, Dec. 27, 1800, and that he followed his remains to the grave.

        Certificate from Judge of Probate Court of Strafford County, N. H. as to death of Sally, widow of George Burnham, and that John is the only surviving child.
        Claim allowed and certificate, made payable to children surviving her, was issued Jan. 12, 1853.
