Thoughts in the Negro Platoon

Since their combat days are over for a few months at least, the 5th platoon of 'B' Co. has decided they'll make as good a show on the drill field as they did on the battle fields of Germany. S/Sgt. Alfred W. Curry, acting platoon leader, is the drill master of these volunteer foot-sloggers who joined the 18th in Bonn.

Anybody who happens around the 'B' Company area nowadays couldn't possibly' miss the sound of Sgt. Curry's booming voice, counting cadence and shouting commands. The platoon has worked out a sequence of trick close order drill that would make the Cold Stream guards turn green with envy.

As Sgt. Curry commented, "Hell, we have to act ready for that march down Fifth Avenue, don't we? Besides, we might pass through Harlem on the way down."
