Lawrence "Larry" Joseph Hill

 

Lawrence J. Hill, a Pearl River resident for most of his life died Jan. 2 after a truck accident in Sarasota County, FL., just 2 days after his 35th birthday.

The accident occured on a curve on Route 72 at 3:20 a.m. when the tractor-trailor went off the highway and fell onto its side, according to police reports. Mr. Hill was pronounced dead at the scene..

The accident was believed to have occured when the load the truck was carrying shifted to one side, said his mother, Pauline Hill, of Pearl River. Mr. Hill was a long-distance truck driver for 13 years and had won eight safety awards.

Mr. Hill was a 1970 graduate at Pearl River High School and had earned an assoicates degree in Liberal Arts at the Rockland Community College in Viola in 1974.

He worked eight years for North American Van Lines. For the past five years, Mr. Hill was an independent owner-operator, driving for the Stamey Nurseries of Boynton Beach, FL, RTC in Atlanta, GA, and Land and Company, Lake Wales, FL.

Mr. Hill also drove a company rig for Armellini Trucking Company in Palm City, FL.

At the time of his death, Mr. Hill was a Palm City resident for three years.

He was born in Lansing, MI on December 31,1951, to Leon and Pauline Hill. The family moved to Pearl River when Mr. Hill was three years old.

In addition to his mother, survivors include four brothers, Fred of Jensen Beach, FL; Brian of Longmont, CO; Ronald of Nanuet and Victor of Stuart, FL; and two nephews.

His father, the retired operator of a West Nyack radiator repair shop died December 28,1984, at the age of 75.

Cremation was in Florida.
