Deed - James Byrd to Jesse Carpenter - Hawkins Co, TN JAMES BYRD TO JESSE CARPENTER
Registered 28 December 1824

        This indenture made the 3rd day of December in the year of our Lord, 1823, between James Byrd of the State of Tennessee and the County of Hawkins of the one part, and Jesse Carpenter, of the County of Claiborne and State of Tennessee of the other part.
        Witnesseth that the said James Byrd for and in consideration of the sum of Five Hundred Dollars, to him in hand, pays the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged.  Hath by there presents doth grant, bargain, sell, align, endorse and convey unto the said Jesse Carpenter, his heirs,________ forever, a certain tract or parcel of land containing eighty acres, same more or less, situated in the County of Hawkins, on the waters of Big War Creek.
        Bounded by lines beginning on a Beech by the road side leading from Cloud's Ferry to the Flat Gap in Clinch Mountain.  Said Beech stands at the mouth of said Bird's Lane and near the north foot of the ridge, running thence South 56 degrees, West 115 poles to a Sugar tree; thence South 17 degrees, East twenty poles to a Beech and Ash; thence South 28 degrees, West twenty poles to a Birch; thence North 68 degrees, West 78 poles to three Lynns; thence North 17 degrees, East 10 poles to a Birch and Sugar tree; thence North 60 poles to a white Oak; thence North 75 degrees, East 123 poles to a stake; thence South 28 degrees, East to the beginning.
        Together, with all and singular, the ways to water, water courses,mines, minerals, profits, commodities, hereditements, happenstances what so ever to said tract of land.  __________ or appertaining the reversion _________  _________ remainder rents __________ thereof all the estate right to ___________ property claims ___________ of him, the said James Bird, _________ ___________ ____________ __________ and to the same and every part __________ thereof either in law or equity, to have and to hold this __________ 80 acres of land with the appertenances unto this _________ Jesse Carpenter, his heirs, against the lawful title claim demand of him, the said James Byrd, his heirs, assigns and against the lawful title claim demand of every other person or persons whatsoever with ____________ defined by these presents in witness whereof, the said said James Bird hereunto sets his hand and seal this day and __________ first above written.
