James Clarke

The Clarke family, descended from James Clarke, originated in England in the early 19th century. James Clarke, born circa 1810, came to North America with the British army. He then volunteered to serve permantly in North America, and the Clarke family has been here ever since.

Married to Bridget Duffy (b. 1830), James Clarke settled on Howe Island, an island south of Kingston, Ont. in the St. Lawrence River. This couple had nine children, and thus the Clarke line was started.
