8th Trench Mortar Battalion CAC

The History of the

8th Trench Mortar Battalion, CAC

During 1918

The 8th Trench Mortar Battalion, Coast Artillery Corps, was orginized at Fort Moultrie, South Carolina on October 12, 1918. On that day the Headquarters Company, Supply Company and Batteries A, B, C, and D were created. The men would come from personnel stationed at Fort Moultrie. The 8th TM Bn was created to be used in the coming spring 1919 offensive in France against the Germans during WWI. But on November 11, 1918, the Germans surrendered and that was the end for the 8th TM Bn, CAC. In Mid-December 1918 the 8th was still stationed at Fort Moultrie and were now ordered to disband with the men returning to their former units or were given discharges. The 8th TM Bn, CAC never made it out of Fort Moultrie and only existed less then two-months.
