Fort de Lesseps, Canal Zone. Permanent post, located in Colon, Limon Bay, Panama. Named in honor of Ferdinand de Lesseps, French engineer, who, 1881-89 unsuccessfully undertook to construct the Panama Canal. Established in 1911 and was the Headquarters and station of the Coast Defenses of Cristobal. Area-About 4 acres.

The 1st Company at Ft. de Lesseps was organized in June of 1917. There was also the 6th Company of the C.D. of Cristobal that was organized in August of 1917 active at Ft. de Lesseps.
Establishments at Cristobal, C. Z.,
MEDICAL SUPPLY DEPOT. A permanent post, located in Cristobal across the street from the ancient Spanish Port of Colon. It was established in January of 1918 as a medical supply depot for Canal Zone troops and maintained 6-month's reserve supply.
The following establishments were at Cristobal: FORT DE LESSEPS, FORT RANDOLPH, FORT SHERMAN and FRANCE FIELD.
On October 15, 1917 there were 2,268 enlisted men in the Cristobal and Balboa Districts of the Canal Zone.
