The Tenant of Wildfell Hall: Novel written by Anne Brontë under the name Acton Bell [1848]
It was completed in June 1847.
It was published in June 1848 by Newby. A set of press reviews in the book were actually taken from critiques of Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre. Newby sold the book in America as an early work of Currer Bell The US publishers, Harper Brothers, claimed that Acton Bell had written Wuthering Heights.
The publication of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall forced Charlotte and Anne to reveal their separate identities to George Smith. They travelled to London to confront the astonished George Smith in his Cornhill office.
The story has been filmed.
