Mill Bank

Mill Bank – aka Millbank – is a village near Triangle, between Kebroyd and Cottonstones.

It is a part of Soyland.

It stands on the old trading route between Yorkshire and Lancashire.

There were fulling mills on Mill Bank Beck here in the 14th century. Many of the buildings in the village date from the 17th century.

In the 19th century, there were 5 woollen and silk mills in the village. Most villagers worked locally, and the community was badly affected by the closure of Kebroyd Mills in 1901 and 1904.

In 1970, plans were proposed by Sowerby Bridge Urban District Council to demolish the village. There was much opposition led by June and Ernest Hall and architect Arthur Quarmby, and – with the aid of government grants – the village remains, and new property has been built to attract people to the area. In November 1970, the council decided to stop demolition and to seek to improve the village
