He was a Labour Councillor for Brighouse, and the last Mayor of Brighouse [1973-1974], before the town became a part of Calderdale, although he had declined the office several times previously.

He married Audrey [19??-2010].

He was a poultry fancier & won many prizes in local shows / a worsted spinner [1911] / employed at Denham's.

He lived at Prospect Farm, Illingworth.

During World War I, he enlisted [January 1916], and served as a Private with the 1st/6th Battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment).

He was killed in action by shellfire at Passchendaele [9th October 1917] (aged 23).

He is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial [82-85 & 162A], on the Memorial at Halifax Town Hall Books of Remembrance, and on the Memorial at Saint Mary the Virgin, Illingworth

On 28th October 1893, he married Alice Brindle [1860-1910] at Halifax Parish Church.


Alice was the daughter of Richard Brindle, landlord of the Empress of India [1891, 1898]
 

They had no children.

Alice died in 1910.

Living with him in 1911 were boarders Mrs Clark and her sons Thomas Arthur and Robert Victor Clark.

Harry died in the Royal Halifax Infirmary [7th December 1951].

Probate records show that he left effects valued at £47 11/-.

Probate was granted to Edna Clark (spinster)

On 10th November 1892, he married (2) Alice Ann Greenwood [1854-19??] from Heptonstall, at Halifax Parish Church.

Living with her in 1901 was her widowed mother Elizabeth Greenwood [aged 73]

Womersley, Jacob
[1834-1866] Of Halifax. He joined the army and served for 11 years with the 11th Regiment of Foot, 8 years in India.

In July 1866, he had been discharged. On 30th July 1866, having travelled from the Isle of Wight, he was on his way to his father's house in Southowram Bank when he leaned against a wall, collapsed and died. A medal inscribed India 1857-8 was found on his body

[18??-1???] Shortly after Christmas 1865, he got into a drunken fight with Tom Yeadon at the Royal Hotel, Brighouse which resulted in Yeadon's death.

He was summoned to rejoin his regiment the day of the wedding; he never saw his wife again.

He died in hospital [22nd August 1916] (aged 22).
