Malcolm Bull's Calderdale Companion : Foldout

Wire Making

Wire making began in the Calder valley in the late 18th century to produce wire for the cards which were used in the textile industry for yarn preparation.

Much of the local trade originated in Clifton. It has been suggested that wire-making was taken to America by men from Clifton.
