Test case in the High Court brought by the Performing
Rights Society against the George Hotel, Brighouse. The hotel was
banned from allowing the public performance (by radio) of any musical
work
- Tuesday, 25th April 1933:
Reported offer of £600,000 for the purchase of the
Halifax tram and bus undertaking by a national electricity company
- Friday, 28th April 1933:
Death of Mr J. G. Asquith, aged 22, only a month after
the death of his father, Mr J. W. S. Asquith, aged 59, the head of
William Asquith Limited, machine tool makers
- Saturday, 29th April 1933:
Automatic telephone exchange opened at
Stainland
- Monday, 22nd May 1933:
Death of Mr William Ormerod, aged 81, a former Mayor of
Todmorden and the town's first Freeman
- Friday, 2nd June 1933:
Heatwave in Halifax. Warmest Whitsuntide for 33 years
- Saturday, 17th June 1933:
Consistory Court grants permission for a granite
tombstone in Hebden Bridge churchyard after being refused by the
vicar
- Thursday, 22nd June 1933:
Outbreak of infantile paralysis
discovered at Rishworth School. One boy dead. Outbreak also
discovered at Sowerby Bridge in which a girl died
- Thursday, 22nd June 1933:
Paton and Baldwins Limited, bonus of £5 to every
employee after declaring annual profit of £409,000
- Monday, 26th June 1933:
Charred body of a man found in the smoke-filled bedroom
of a Wadsworth farm. His wife was charged
with murder and sentenced to death at Leeds Assizes. The sentence was
later commuted
- Monday, 26th June 1933:
Death aged 49 of Ralph Thornber, of Mytholmroyd, a
founder of Thornber Bros

Thousands Watch Gala Procession – Huge crowds fathered to watch a
gala procession in Northgate, Halifax. The picture was taken at the
junction with Crosshills, Dean Clough. The site on the left is now
occupied by Dews Garage

Doctor's Orders – The portly figure of Doc Shire – local publican
Herbert Seston – was a familiar figure in Halifax in the early
thirties. The character was created by artist J. J. Mulroy to
advertise Whitaker's ales
