Christopher Tate Rhodes


Christopher Tate Rhodes was the son of Samuel Rhodes.

He was born 14th August 1843.

His name has been written Tait.

He was

In his young days, he was a brilliant athlete and was a boxer, jumper, cyclist and swimmer, and was known for performing tricks in the water. In 1893, he was present when Woodside Baths opened and he jumped into the water fully-clothed wearing laced-up boots and a top hat and undressing down to his bathing suit in the water.

On 24th August 1865, he married Maria Wilkinson.


Maria was the daughter of Joseph Wilkinson

  8. Christopher Tate [1882-1907] who became a law student [1901]

The family lived at

There were visitors, lodgers and boarders with the family: cousin Emily Mitchell [aged 39] [1881]; visitor Nasib Juresdini [aged 30] born Turkey, a merchant from Manchester [1901]

He died at 4 Heathfield Place on 10th August 1934, only 4 days before his 91st birthday

He was buried at All Saints' Church, Dudwell
