Baxter Guthrie Clatterbuck


      Baxter Guthrie Clatterbuck was born on December 8, 1872, the son of John Lewis Clatterbuck and Lucy Francis Reynolds. He married Ida Mae Allen, the daughter of James William Allen and Virginia E. Foster, on December 13, 1893. Ida was born on June 9, 1876. Baxter and Ida had three children, Roy Allen, Grace Mary and a son who died in infancy. He died on April 17, 1933 and Ida Mae died on June 24, 1957 they are buried in the Dry Fork Church Cemetery.

      His obituary:

      Baxter G. Clatterbuck, 61 years old a native of Callaway County, and a life long resident of this and Boone Counties, died at his home in Guthrie at 4:30 o'clock, Monday afternoon, after an illness of about seven months.

      A funeral service was conducted at 3:30 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon at Dry Fork Baptist Church, west of Guthrie, bu Rev. H.P. Cheavens of Ashland. Burial was in Dry Fork Cemetery.

      Mr. Clatterbuck was a son of John and Lucy Reynolds Clatterbuck, pioneer residents of the Kingdom. He was born December 8, 1871, on a farm near Guthrie, and lived his entire life in that community and in the edge of Boone County, where the family owned a farm.

      He was one of a family of ten children that grew to maturity. During the early part of his life he devoted his time to farming. Twenty-six years ago he secured the postition of rural mail carrier from the Guthrie post office, and served in this capacity until September 10, 1932, when his health compelled him to retire.

      On December 13, 1893, Mr. Clatterbuck was married to Miss Ida M. Allen who, with two children survives. The children are: Roy A. Clatterbuck of Jefferson City, and Mrs. Irvin Reynolds of New Bloomfield, He also leaves three grandchildren, Gladys, Peyton and Reed Reynolds, New Bloomfield, three brothers and four sisters; Waller L. Clatterbuck, and J. Hort Clatterbuck, Guthrie, Obe Clatterbuck, East St. Louis, Mrs. Samuel H. Hudson, Mrs Carl A. Wilson, Mrs. O.L. Smith and Mrs. Callie Clatterbuck, Guthrie.

      Mr. Clatterbuck united with the Dry Fork Church forty years ago and also was a charter member of the Modern Woodsmen of America. he was a substantial and respected cititzen and public servant and will be missed by his many friends in the Guthrie community, as well as in Callaway County.

      The Children of Baxter G. Clatterbuck and Ida Mae Allen were:

      Roy Allen Clatterbuck b. July 2, 1897 d. April 20, 1943
      Roy Allen married Beulah Trammel, daughter of Jefferson Trammel and Mary Margaret Clatterbuck on December 4, 1917.
      He second married Clara Frnaces Beschman.
      They had two daughters, Gladys and Grace.

      ROY CLATTERBUCK Dead at Fulton(Ashland Bugle, d. April 20, 1943) Roy Clatterbuck former resident of Jefferson City died 3:20 a.m. yesterday at the home of his mother, Mrs. Ida Clatterbuck in Fulton. He had been ill since March of last year and was 46 years old at the time of his death. Born in Guthrie July 2, 1897. He came to Jefferson City in 1927 and remained here for years as a salesman of the Ford, Dodge and International Trucks Motor Company. He left there in 1940 and moved to (unreadable) Besides his mother and his wife, Clara, he is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Grace Walker of Indianapolis, Indiana and a sister, Mrs. Grace Reynolds of New Bloomfield. Funeral services will be held at Guthrie, MO.

      Grace married William Irvin Reynolds on February 19, 1919. They had two children, Reed and Lucy Payton.

      Infant Son b. October 3, 1902, d. November 19, 1902.
