"George Washington Griffin an energetic young farmer of Cedar township, and a representative of one of the pioneer families of the county, was born in the township where he now lives, on the 21st of July 1848. his parents, Leroy C. and Francis F. (Gray) Griffin, came to Callaway county from Franklin County, Kentucky in 1824, and made this their home until their deaths. The father was native of Franklin county, Kentucky, the mother formerly from Tennessee, and the parental families of both were formerly from Virginia. They reared nine children: John B., Martha, Alexander, Rachel , Mary, George, Frances R., and Anna. The father was a farmer by occupation, and to this calling George W. was brought up to the present time, and now has a neat and comfortable place of 160 acres, nearly all of which is under fence and fairly improved some fine graded cattle and an excellent sotck of hogs. On the 18th of December, 1878, Mr. Griffin was married to Mrs. Martha E. Currie, a widow lady, and daughter of Smith A. and Eliza A. (Reynolds) Brandon, her father a native of Halifax county, Virginia, but her mather born and reared in this State. her mother was descended from the same family of Reynolds of Virgnia, but originally of Ireland, from which the Reynolds of Pike county, this state, Dr. Stephen I and Hon. Matthew G., are derived. Her father was twice married to William F and Martha E. Mr. and Mrs. Griffin have one child, Finis Taylor, and by her former husband Mrs. G. has two children, W.B. and John J. Currie. Mr. and Mrs. Griffin are highly esteemed neighbors in the vicinity where they live."
