      William Samuel Clatterbuck was born on the old homestead of his father, about seven miles west of New Bloomfield, on the 12th of July, 1841, and his entire active career was one of close and successful identification with agriculture and stock growing. He gave loyal and gallant service as a soldier of the Confederacy in the Civil War, in which he served under General Price and Cockerell, and duringhis long and faithful service he lived up to the full tension of the great conflict. He took part in many important engagements, was wounded in battle at Franklin, Tennessee, and was captured by the enemy, having been held as a prisoner of war for a period of about one month. he is now the owner of a valuable farm of two hundred and eighty five acres, about on and thiree fourths miles distant from New Bloomfield, and he there devotes his attention to diversified agriculture and the raising of stock, including thoroughbred cattle of registered line and also high grade Duroc Jersey swine, as well as horses and mules. Industry and well ordered enterprise have brought to him a generous measure of success and he commands in his mative county the unqualified confidence and esteem of all who know him. he is a stalwart advocated of the principles and policies for which the Democratic party statds sponsor and both he and his wife hold membership in the Baptist Church.

      Williams military records show: William S. Clatterbuck, Pvt. Co. D, Reg. Missouri inf., CSA, enlisted. Present July/August muster roll. Union prisoner of war records show he was captured at Franklin, TN, December 16, 1864, paroled at Camp Chase, Ohio and transferred to City Point, Virginia, February 25, 1865 as exchange. His name appears on the register at Jackson Hospital, Richmond, Virginia where he was admitted March 8, 1865. He was surrendered by General Taylor, May 1865, and paroled at Jackson, Mississippi, May 13, 1865 at Vicksburg.

      William Samuel Clatterbuck was born on July 12, 1841 son of William Getter Clatterbuck and Caroline Leopard. He married Mary Elizabeth Curry, daughter of William Curry and Mary J. Snells, on January 20, 1850. They had six children, two which died in infancy. William died on May 2, 1917 and Mary died on April 6, 1942 in the Confederate Home Society. She was one of the last residents in the home. Sam and Mary are buried in the Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery on the land the Sam donated for the purpose of starting the church.

      William Sam Clatterbuck (Ashland Bugle 5-9-1918)

      W.S. Clatterbuck, 76 years old died at his home two miles west of New Bloomfield, Thursday, May 2, 1918, of complications of diseases, we learn from the News. Funeral services were conducted at Hopewell Baptist Church Friday, but the Rev. C.A. Mitchell. Burial was in the church cemetery.

      Robert Gates married Mayme B. Lynes on December 11, 1897.
      She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Catherine Burnham Lynes.
      She was born Jan 27, 1875 d. April 25, 1940

      New Bloomfield, MO April 17-
      Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Gates Clatterbuck, Tuesday evening at her home in Weslaco, Texas. She has been sick only a few days and her death was caused by influenza.
      Mayme Lynes Clatterbuck was born near New Bloomfield January 27, 1875, and was a daughter of Joseph and Mary Catherine Branham Lynes. She had made her home here until about twenty years ago when she went to Kansas City to live. Later she moved to Texas and has since made her home there.
      She was married to Gates Clatterbuck of New Bloomfield, on December 15, 1897. They had no children. Besides the husband, she is survived by three sisters and one brother. They are: Mrs. Mattie Murray and TJ Lynds, New Bloomfield; Mrs. Lucy Robinson, Sturgeon, Mo., Mrs. Catherine Kenny, Kansas City, Mo.
      Funeral services will be conducted in Weslaco, Texas, Thursday morning with burial there also.

      They had no known children.
