The village of Packerton began its existence as two separate villages.  Dolonsburg was about 100 feet up the hillside, overlooking the Lehigh River, named for the Dolon family who owned much of the area.  Burlington was down along the river and the Beaver Run Creek.  The villages were sparked by a need for farm produce for Mauch Chunk (which Dolonsburg helped supply) as well as railroad activity along the riverside beginning in 1837 when the tracks of the Beaver Meadow Railroad were laid.  Following a flood, this section of the BMRR was abandoned, but it wasn’t long before the Lehigh Valley Railroad and later the Lehigh & Susquehanna section of the Central Railroad of NJ was built.  The name was changed to Packerton when Asa Packer, the man behind the LVRR, bought large sections of land in the area from George and John Dolon.  This land, mainly along the Lehigh River, was used to create a large railroad yard and shop area, which continued in operation into the late 1960s.  A flood in 1862 washed away much of the village of Burlington, killing 19 of its people.  The rail yard’s expansion spelt the demise of most of the rest of the village located close to the river, leaving only that part located along the Beaver Run Creek.

The following list shows the property owner, section they lived in, and in some cases some notes.  A small portion of the village of Jamestown is included on the bottom most part of this map.  The rest of Jamestown will appear on the page for Lehighton Borough when that comes online.
