1875
Founded in the late 18th century by Revolutionary War hero Jacob Weiss and his family, the village had just incorporated prior to the printing of the Carbon County Atlas. The borough lies exclusively between the Lehigh River on the west and the Lehigh Canal on the east. The village had seeped over onto the other side of the canal from an early period, but this section, known as East Weissport (and North Weissport) are not included here. They remain part of Franklin Twp., and will appear on the site for that township.
Besides what is shown on the following list, the companies of Yeakel & Albright and the Carbon Iron Co. owned large area’s of land at the town’s boundaries
