Comments: Great site. I'm James Markham Carmichael living with my family in the
piedmont area of Virginia. I'm the son of David Curry Carmichael, son of David McNabb
Carmichael who immigrated from Belfast in about 1910. David McNabb Carmichael is the son
of Robert Carmichael who settled in Belfast after striking it rich after finding gold or
silver in Queensland Australia in the 1880s or 1890s. He then founded a shipbuilding
company and his company put the metal "skin" on the Titanic. Robert Carmichael
was married to Sarah McNabb. Two of my grandfather's brothers went back to Austrailia and
other siblings stayed in Belfast. If you are a Crmichael in Belfast or Australia we may be
related. I related some geneological infromation-if this looks familiar to you please

Hello Matt, are you the famous Matt of the web site? if you
are , you are to be highly commended for all your work. I noticed your response to
different people on the genealogy forum. There has been alot of discussion on Mary Sikes
and Samuel Carter. Our James Washington Carmichael out of Bienville Parish, Louisiana is
most likely not the son of this Mary. Her children were living in his house in the 1850
census, they do carry carmichael given names. However, my aunts did genealogy when it was
very difficult and not high tech starting back into the 1950's. They went to every source
imaginable from records to rest homes to churches and wrote in hand. They have indicated
the parents could be William and Nancy Columbus out of Georgia. Also that James Washington
had a sister named Mary Carmichael. The Mary everyone talks about could have been an aunt,
a sister, a cousin. She is not the mother. We are trying very dilligently to prove
parentage for James Washington because

We can only get back to james washington carmichael born 1821 and resided in bienville parish, louisiana with his wife amy ratcliff carmichael. he served as a second lt. in the civil war.
he had at least two sons-john belvin and william. he might be the son of william and nancy
columbus carmichael out og georgia. one of his sons isiah henry moved to santa ana, california possibly in the 1860's on. james washington had two grandsons known john henry carmichael and his brother william billy carmichael. family moved from georgia into louisiana, into texas and then oklahoma. he might have had a sister mary carmichael
who married a samuel carter possibly. anyone who has a key to any of this please contact
me. your information will set a family free and ensure the next generations will be able
to know from where they sprang. thank you very much for your time..... anyone who see this
will understand the strong desire deep inside to find out this information.

Hi, Do you konw anyone who does genealogy about
Carmichael-family in British Columbia, Canada, or has something info. My fathers cousin
Tyyne Maria Altin (born March 5. 1898, Wellington, B.C.)married Oct. 16. 1915 in

was only 17 years old when they got married and died five years later to tuberculosis Aug.
16. 1920. I would like to know if they had any children and descendants in Canada. I
suppose that Gordon Burns remarried after her death. Tyyne Maria was a daughter of Maria

I've just started to research, my grandfather was Frank
Carmichael, estimated date of birth is March 1886. Unsure if he was born in Ireland, some
stories that he lived in Ontario for a while. He travelled to the Northwest Territories

has information that may be helpful, please e mail. I enjoyed your site and hope to

I do not know if you can help me or not, but I thought that it
was worth a try. I am looking for my bilogical father. His name is James Edward
Carmichael. I was born in Kalamazoo, MI in April of 1967. He was living in the same area,
and I have been told that he has at least 2 other children - one a son who may also be
named James Carmichael. My mother believes that he had a sister that married a Native
American. All of this information is based on events of over 30 years ago. When I saw that
you have done extensive research in Michigan, I thought that maybe you have come across
something over the years. His name was never on my birth certificate, so there are no
adoption
records for me to search. All I have is word of mouth, and about a thousand James
Carmichael's in the phone book.... Any assistance you may be able to provide would be most
appreciated. Thank you.

Hi all Carmichaels! My husband's (Elton's) branch of the
Carmichael family lives in Swaziland, in Southern Africa and began when his grandfather (I
forget his name) came here from Scotland. There are now numerous Carmichaels in Swaziland;
in a country dominated by the ruling family, the Dlaminis, the Carmichaels have a definite
presence! Most of them are of mixed blood, have intermarried right from the start with
African people. The original Carmichael here, my husband's grandfather, married a woman
from Mozambique of the Tonga tribe. Many Carmichaels now have shown an international
"tendency" in the other direction, marrying Portuguese, Germans, Italians, and
even, in my case, Canadians - a very interesting, "global" family, which I'm
very proud to belong to! Aude Pepin Carmichael

Hi, my name is Dawn Paterson, I am the great grand daughter of
James Carmichael. My James was born in Elderslie, Dunbartonshire (according to an
interview with him in 1918). Other records record his place of birth as
"Elderslie" Renfrewshire. He came to New Zealand in 1961, married and lived out
his life here. I have been unable to find any Scottish connections for him. He has to be
someones son, someones brother. I wonder if you might have a connection to him. Here in
New Zealand he worked as a driver for Cobb -&- Co, with many notable firsts to his
credit. He also owned a farm in an area close to Dunedin. Family 'stories' tell us that he
was a gentleman driver in the old country.

I' am a Dutch Carmichael. We completed our family tree
(starting in 1610) and we are trying to find the roots back. The first name in our tree is
Robert Carmichael. He was a scottish weaponmaker and he supported Holland as a member of
the Scottish Brigades in the war against the Spanish (the so-called 80 years-war during
1558 untill 1648) He arrived in Holland in appr. 1610. Congratualations with your site.

I enjoyed your site very much, and I may have cleared up the
confusion about my ancestor Lemuel Carmichael(1784) who married a Suzy(Susannah Brown?).He
was listed in the census of Jefferson County,TN-1850 as being from NC.I thought his
father's name was John(info from another cousin)but not certain. But he may be the Lemuel
who was the son of Duncan Carmichael -&- Charity Witt of NC.I don't know how to check
it out but if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.Lemuel had a son named Lemuel,
Jr.who married a Susannah M.I have visited their gravesite at Dumplin Church Cemetary in
Jefferson County,TN.Their son Porter married a Martha Roberts.Their daughter Maggie was my
grandmother, who died in 1906 at age 38 a week after giving birth to a little girl. My
father was age 3 and his grandmother Martha Carmichael raised him and his older brother
and another of his sisters.I just started looking into this about a year ago so I'm new at
this but I've learned so much about my ancestors and I'm hooked.

Thank you for including me on your web page, my trip to
england and scotland has been derailed for awhile due to the events of Sept 11, I am a
firefighter for Los Angeles County Fire Department and have been one for 25 years, and the
loss of the FDNY firefighters touched me deeply to the point I traveled last month to new
york to support our fellow brothers. I went to 6 memorials and visited the men at local
new york fire station just to listen and talk. I also visited ground zero, to feel a part
of what the men felt while looking for their lost brothers. Hopefully if and when things
settledown I can go forward on my research of our ancesters. Lets not forget the ones we
lost,

Am trying to verify information about my great grandfather
Archibald Carmichael. Per LDS Scottish Church Records he was born either 1811 or 1814 in
Barony, Lanark to Ronald Carmichael -&- Mary Campbell. He emigrated to Prince Edward
Island about 1840, married Mary Trainor. The records do not show a sibling named Robert,
however, I have copies of land deeds that show that Archibald and Robert each inherited 50
acres of farm land from a Robert Carmichael. Obviously this was their father. Archibald's
siblings were John, Donald, Margaret, Catherine and Sarah, all born in Glasgow. His
children wre Robert, Bridget, Clara,James, Duncan, Peter and Mary Margaret. Any
information to help clear this confusion would be appreciated.

Hello, again,Well,we made the trip to Sudbury last week, and
went to a Eyre Cemetary. which one of the older cemetaries in the area. But
unfortunately, they are Carmichael's there. but not my family. I guess maybe being so long
ago, either stone is not longer visible to read,or just not been recorded on the list at
City Cemetaries. I was a little disappointed so this will end my search in that area. I
will just have to accepted the the findings of the geneologists and let it go at that.
Thank you for your help during these past years.

I'm a native of Liverpool, in the North-West of England, and
at the request of my father, I'm conducting research into my family history, which I'm
beginning to realise is far more difficult than I expected. My father is the youngest of
nine children, and the last of his elderly brothers has recently died, leaving us with the
realisation that as these people die, so do the breadcrumbs for us to follow. I'm at the
point at which I have a fairly complete record of three generations behind myself, and
some further indications of up to another two further generations (stemming from
Scotland). If anybody feels that they're in a position to contribute to my research, or
would like to ask any questions, then please feel free to contact me.

My husband -&- I have inherited an oil painting of a cow
in a stream. It is signed Carmichael 1914. The only connection we can find with our family
is that my husband's great aunt Edna McSherry married Raymond Carmichael in Baltimore MD
around the early 1900's. It is a lovely painting and we are interested in its history. If
anyone knows about an artist named Carmichael, we would appreciate hearing from you.

Hello and God bless, My name is Deb Culp of Albany, N.Y.,
daughter of Carlton Graeme Carmichael. I came across the website purely by accident this
morning, looking for my stepmother's e-mail address. What a beautiful tribute to the family
name. The music alone made me cry with joy. There aren't many Carmichaels here in Albany
and my father passed away a few years ago. There are just a few details I remember
concerning my grandfather and three uncles who came to the United States in the early
1900's. I believe my grandfather's name was Graeme and the names of two of his brothers
were, Forrest and Duncan Carmichael. I am the oldest of three daughters. ( my older
brother Carlton Carmichael Jr. was killed in an automobile accident in 1971 ). My youngest
sister, Beatrice continues to use our family name. Hope to hear from fellow ancestors
soon, I may be able to help link a bit more information together for you. Sincerely,

side. My great grandfather was Gilbert Morrison Carmichael b 1881, His father was
Archibald Carmichael b 1833 and his father was Donald Carmichael b1810. We know very
little about any siblings although my grandfather thinks some of them did emigrate. They
all were born on Isle of Islay. We know that Donald married a Euphemia Morrison at

I am looking for my grandmother's family of CARMICHAEL'S. She
was born, Mary Jane Carmichael on 10-6-1875 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. On her marriage
certificate, she listed her father's name as Issac. On Her death certificate (although
this information came from someone else) it said her father's name was John.
It has been told to me that there were at least 9 children, one of whom's name was Janet
Carmichael. My grandmother, and her sister were
sent to Providence, RI to work and there she married my grandfather, Ernest WR Studley. I
have tried, unsucessfully, to get her birth certificate from Halifax. Any suggestions or
help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Hello, I am looking for any information about my family line.
My dad's name is Dennis Paul Carmichael, my grandfather is Harold Lester Carmichael and my
great-grandfather is Edward Hanley Carmichael. I don't know much past him. Is there anyone
out that that is related to these men that might have more information before Edward (i.e.
who his dad was and so on). I think my great-grandfather was born in Nodaway, IA. Any help
that anyone can give me would be great! Thanks, Keri Carmichael

While searching for some Civil War sites, I came across your
Carmichael site. Maybe it was fate, I don't know. I have been looking for an old Air Force
friend, Robert Carmichael, for the past 18 years. One of those contacted had a directory
called "Clan Carmichael", which he loaned to me for a short time. I wrote to
every Robert Carmichael in the book and got some great responses, but didn't find the
right Robert. Possibly you could assist me in my effort.
The Robert I am looking for was a B-52 pilot, stationed at Seymour-Johnson AF Base, N.C.
in 1971. He married an AF 1st Lt Jessie A. Moore 13 Feb 71. I have no idea where they got
married or whether he got out of the Air Force. I do know that he did not retire from the
Air Force (to the best of my knowledge). I believe Jessie A. Moore was from Texas. Any
guidance or assistance will be appreciated. THANKS

Hello Mr. Carmichael, my name is Brad Moulton. I visited your
web site and was quite impressed. However, I was quite unsure where to start searching.
I've got some decent names and dates, such as John Carmichael being born in Scottland in
1836, married to Catherine. Both came to Canada and had Dougal in 1868. All moved to
Kansas shortly there-after. What is your recommendation for searching farther back with
this family branch? Appreciate your input, Brad.

Congratulations on a very impressive site! You've done a
marvellous job and I really enjoyed exploring your pages. My own site is very basic and
still under construction (due to the fact that I don't know what I'm doing!!). I have
quite a bit of CARMICHAEL info. in a database found on my Homepage. An interesting fact is
that not all CARMICHAEL'S came from the same origins. There is a branch of CARMICHAEL'S
(mine are of this line) who Anglicized their Gaelic surname to CARMICHAEL around 1800. The
original form being "Macgillimichael" or "Macmichael." My branch
resided in Saddell -&- Skipness parish in Argyll in the 1770-1830 period. They later
relocated to Greenock and then on to Canada (Co. Bonaventure, Quebec). Check "Black's
Surnames of Scotland" for further information on this form of the name which is
totally unconnected to the Clan Carmichael.

This is great. A very well done site. I am g'granddaughter of
Ida Belle Carmichael and through her, trace back to Duncan and Archibald Carmichael of
Lanark in the 1750's. The brothers came to America through North Carolina. Duncan is my
"direct" ancestor. I am tracing side branches and attempting to find their
records in Scotland so as to trace their parents (and back!). Again, great site! It has
given me some idea of what to strive for as I build my own page. Thanks for your work!

I really enjoyed your web site. My grandfather died when I was
very young and my dad died when I was 23 so I don't know too much about our family and am
really interested. My granddad used to laugh and say there were originally 7 Carmchael
brothers that came over from Scotland and that they were so ugly when they got to
Wilmington, NC that made them go to diff. parts of the country! Don't guess this was true
since my grandad and dad were both good looking men.
