Bank of New South Wales
Bank of New South Wales

Roll of Honour

World War 1

1914 to 1918
When the call to arms came , 793 men from the Bank of New South Wales enlisted in the armed forces of Australia, New Zealand and Great Britain.

These men came from the bank's head office in Sydney and branches in every Australian State, New Zealand, Papua, Fiji and the London Office.

The total male staff at the time numbered 1880 so the enlistments represented a remarkable 42% of the bank's staff. The men were represented in almost all the ranks and commissions, from Private to Regimental Sergeant Major to Lieutenant-Colonel.

The following list shows in alphabetical order the surname, first names, bank branch at enlistment and decorations if known. The bank was also able to obtain photographs and brief family histories of many of these men and where applicable these are marked with a book symbol or ampersand (&), depending on your browser.

An example page from the handsome book printed by W. C. Penfold & Co. Ltd in 1921 can be seen here .
