William Anderson Carter, Private was a veteran of the War Between the States on the side of the Confederacy.
Born in Stokes County, North Carolina where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting at "Payne's" at age 21, March 8, 1862. Place and date wounded, not reported. Discharged on April 4, 1863 by reason of "atrophy of the muscles of the right leg caused by an injury of the knee joint." (North Carolina pension records indicate he was wounded near Yorktown, and West Point, Virginia, on unspecified dates.)
