Emma Pauline Ackerson passed away at the Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, Ariz., on August 28, 2006.

She was 88 years old. Her last place of residence was at the Mi Casa Nursing Center in Mesa.
She was born in Vananda, Mont., on July 24, 1928 [1918], and reared on a farm near Ashley. She lived in Eureka and Aberdeen, S. D., after which she moved to Apache Junction and then to Mesa, Ariz.

She spent most of her lifetime as a homemaker and for over 20 years she worked as a nurse aide at various hospitals and nursing homes in South Dakota.

Surviving are her daughter, Darlene DeYoung of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and son, LeRoy Obenauer; granddaughters Julie Whiting and Sabrina Obenauer; grandsons James DeYoung, David Obenauer and Donald Obenauer; brothers Walter Babitzke of Burnsville, Minn. and Herbert Babitzke of Mesa, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Otto Obenauer and Harvey Ackerson; son, Roger Obenauer; parents, Henry Babitzke, and Rosina Rau Babitzke; brothers, Arthur, Edwin, Albert and Harold and sisters, Hulda and Elsa.

A memorial service will be held at the Mi Casa Nursing Center in Mesa at 2 p.m. on September 8, 2006. Pastor John Schaumburg from the First Evangelical Lutheran Church will conduct the service.
