Joyous Day at Christchurch
Free Tea For All and Sports
From the "Wisbech Standard", 10 May 1935
The Jubilee was fittingly celebrated at Christchurch.
A Service was held in the Church at two o'clock, conducted by the Rev. S. Evans, a fair congregation
being present. The lesson was read by Mr. L.W. France, and a collection was taken for the King's
Jubilee Trust Fund.
At three o'clock a tea was given the school children in the Institute and school. This was followed
by a free tea for everybody, and about 500 persons sat down to an excellent meal prepared by members of
the Women's Institute. The organisers were Mrs. H. Pate and Mrs. A. Russell, who had many helpers.
The children's sports followed, organised by the Townley School staff. The judges were the Townley
School managers, the Rev. S. Evans, Messrs. H. Bate, H. Scott, H. Day, C. Chamberlain and J. Bliss, and
the starter Mr. T. Cox. The prizes were presented by Mrs. L.C. Davies, Miss A.M. Avory and Miss S.M. Bird.
