Ernest William PALMER 13 May 1887-7 May 1954
Ernest William PALMER
My grandfather, Ernest William PALMER, was born in Wisbech on 13 May 1887, the 3rd child and 3rd son
of Louis Henry & Catherine PALMER.
He worked with his father and brothers in the family firm of Palmer & Sons. Here is an example of their
handiwork: Smedley's Boiler
He married Florence Harriet SCALES on
27 October 1912 at the Little Church Street Methodist Church, Wisbech -
[just 2 years before my other grandparents were also married at the same church]
Ernest & Florence on their wedding day.
I cecently found this set of photo postcards [below] in my late mother's effects. They show my grandfather, Private Ernest PALMER,
along with 134 Coy Military Transport, Army Service Corps in Wells, Somerset during May, 1915.
The local photographer, Bert Phillips, must have sold many of these postcards to the soldiers, as Ernest used these
cards to write to my grandmother back in Wisbech :)
To see a larger version, just click on any of the thumbnails. They are now hosted on Flickr.com
Ernest only served a short time with the R.A.S.C. in WW1 - February to December 1915.
