Abigail Emerson

[Goodwin051502.ged]

James, p. 43, lists the spouse of Benjamin Pattee as the Abigail Emersonborn to Robert and Abigail. The NEHGR, 146:334, makes a strong case thatAbigail, the daughter of John and Abigail Emerson.

Peter Emerson

[Goodwin051502.ged]

Peter served with Braddock's army in the French and Indian war: MajorRichard Saltonstall's company, April 14, 1757. He also served in theColonial army "for the reduction of Canada' in Captain Mooer's companyand Colonel Bagley's regiment in 1758. He was one of Haverhill's MinuteMen and marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775 in Captain James Sawyer'scompany and was in camp at Cambridge May 17, 1775. Peter and Mary movedto Windham about 1784 where he became a prominent citizen. (From James'"The Haverhill Emersons...")

Whether or not both Miriam and Sarah were wives of this Peter Emerson isan open question. Jane James (The Haverhill Emersons) treats allchildren born prior to 1761 as children of Miriam, all subsequently bornto to Sarah. However, the Haverhill VRs provide a somewhat differentpicture, with children attributed to Sarah as early as 1747. I havelisted both as wives of this Peter, but have listed the children asrecorded to each wife in the Haverhill VRs. All four attributed toMiriam in the Haverhill VRs apparently died young.

Miriam Marble

[Goodwin051502.ged]

Note: Jane James (History of Haverhill Emersons, p. 59, 60) says thatMiriam died about 1759 or 1760 and credits her with children born between1748-1760. The Haverhill VRs have Mary Stanton as the mother of thechldren born in those years.
