Thomas Lord, age 50, embarked in the [IT:Elizabeth and Ann:IT] under
Captain Roger Cooper in April of 1635. He traveled with his wife,
Dorothy age 46, children; Thomas, 16, Ann, 14, William, 12, John, 10,
Robert, 9, Aymie, 6, and Dorothy, 4.
On arrival at Boston, he joined for a year or two, his eldest son,
Richard, who had been in Newton (Cambridge) for two or three years. In
1636 he joined Rev. homas Hooker and a party of 100 followers and
crossed the wilderness to become one of the founders and original
proprietors of Hartford, Connecticut. His home-lot in 1639 was on the
highway on the bank of Little River, later Wells Street. Twenty acres
were allotted to him on 3 Mar 1640. Once settled in this county he was
known as a merchant and mill owner.
His name was inscribed on the monument in the old Center Church Buring
Ground, which was erected in memory of the founders of the city.

Torrey places marriage in Towcester, the record, however is in the
Marriage License book of Peterborough nearby.

Thomas was from County Southhampton, England. He came to New England
in 1631 on the [IT:Plough :IT]and landed at Boston but settled later
at Lynn in 1638 where he is mentioned as a farmer (History of Lynn, p.
14). He was admitted as a freeman 14 May 1634, at Boston apparently.
From Lynn he moved to Southampton in 1640.
