He came to Stratford with his mother and brother, John, and his nameappears among the list of property owners in 1650. He was an originalproprietor and was a prominent man. As early as 1650 he attained therank of sergeant and represented Stratford in the general court almostcontinuously from 1667 to 1686. In 1672 he was given permission tostart a plantation at Pomeraug (Woodbury), and he was one of theoriginal grantees, although he never moved there.
In June, 1672 he was appointed captain of the train band of Stratfordand at the same time the general court declared him the secondmilitary officer of Fairfield county. He commanded the forces in 1675from Fairfield Co. in King Philip's War. In 1676 he was appointedcommissioner of both Stratford and Woodbury. He died in Stratford, hiswill was entered for probate, Dec. 31, 1702 at Fairfield.
