[1526] "John Woodcock of Rehoboth and Attleboro, was born in Englandprobably in 1615. The date of his arrival in America is not knowndefintely...He first appears of record in Rehoboth on the 28, 4th mo.,1647, when he is allotted by the propriotors the land before grantedto Edward Patteson. He was living there as early as 1654, probablyfor some years previous...He came from Roxbury where he owned realestate. He was admitted a freeman there in 1673. He also had a grantof land in May, 1662, for a small house near the church atRehoboth..for the Lord's Day." His property was a garrison in KingPhillip's war. One of his sons, Nathaniel, was killed by attackingIndians, and later buried there. There is quite a bit on this inDaggett's History of Attleboro, 1834. John Woodcock distributed nearlyall of his real estate holdings between his sons John, Israel,Jonathan and Thomas before his decease.
