[5586] Isaac was chosen for various positions in early Stockbridge. He wasHog Reever in March 1769 (the official whose duty it was to see thatall the hogs had nose rings and yokes); in 1775 he was a surveyor ofthe highway and collector of the highway rates; in March 1777 he waschosen tythingman (a person whose official job was to wake thoseworshipers who nodded, keep order and make certain that personsattended church and who made certain that there were no loafers intaverns who should have been in church). At the March 1782 townmeeting he was elected constable, a job considered undesireablebecause in addition to regular police duties, he had to collect thetaxes levied by the General Assembly.

the Oxford history, he was "recommended to the church at Hartland, 26
July 1772." and was admitted by letter from Oxford to the church in
Hartland, 2 Oct 1774.
[208] The History of Waterbury records him as one of the men from that townwho served in both Continental and Revolutionary Wars. French andIndian War in 1760. In the Revolutionary army he served under Capt.Kimberly (Connecticut Men in the Revolution, 326, 364, 643.) Heenlisted in the Revolutionary Army with his son Ruben, Jr. who served6 years.
