[3691] He was said to have been a friend of General George Washington and was
with him at Morristown, NJ, during the winters of 1776-1777 and
1779-1780. He was placed in charge of the war chest - money to pay
troops stationed in Morristown. In 1785 Aaron was appointed county
judge, from there he served in the state legislature, 1784-1804.
He was a friend of Thomas Jefferson and an honorary pallbearer at
Washinton's funeral in 1799. He was instrumental in helping Jefferson
get elected for his first term.He resigned his senate seat in March,
1809 because of illness. He returned to his old blacksmithing
business.
Between 1769 and 1808 Aaron purchsed pieces of New Jersey land
whenever he could and acquired several hundred acres of farmland.
His children are mentioned in the Kitchell genealogies.
