[1850] He was the first religious instructor in Eastham before that he was inBarnstable as early as 1639 according to Amos Otis.

John Mayo born England, was inducted minister of 2nd church at Bostonwhich had been gathered 5 Jun 1650. He preached there until 1672 andmoved to Barnstable to live with his daughter.

The Mayo family has a long and distinguished past in England. It isclaimed that Rev. John Mayo, the first pastor of the Old Church inBoston, was the son of the John Mayo of Cattistock, Eng., the authorof the famous black letter book or pamphlet entitled, "The Pope'sParliment, containing a pleasant and delightful historie wherein".Children were baptized at Cattistock.
