[234] From New Jersey Genesis, 8:331, "William was the American pioneer ofthis family. He was born in England around 1610-20. He came to NewHaven, CT about 1640 and shortly thereafter, married, Ann, d ofBenjamin Wilmot of New Haven. The latter's will, 1669, namesson-in-law William Bunnell and four of his children, the wife and onechild probably having died." He came to the Massachusetts Bay Colonyin 1638 on the 'James'. "It is thought he was one of the passengerswho died at Barbados in 1671, en route for America on his return froma trip to England. (Boston Transcript, 19 Mar 1924; 12 May 1926).Torrey places death at 1654.

Elder John and his second wife Ruth (Sargent)(Winslow) Bourne are
buried side by side in the old cemetery at Sandwich. The record on his
stone reads: "Here Lyes Buried ye Body of Elder John Chipman aged 88
