3. Archibald A.² HELMS sr (Allen¹) was born in North Carolina 19 DEC 1817 or May 1 1827. Archibald died 1 NOV 1898 in Talbot County, Ga., at 80 years of age or Aug. 20 1905.

He married Martha Jane HELMS before 1850. On the 1850 Talbot County census Archibald and Martha were listed in the household of Allen Helms. It states they had been married within the year. 22nd Dist., Household/family 466.

Martha was born 12 DEC 1829. Martha died 31 OCT 1862 in Talbot County, Ga., at 32 years of age. Her maiden name is believed to be Hinson; however, she is not the Martha Hinson who married Archibald Helms, son of William Helms of North Carolina.

He married Lucy Oraline COLLIER Helms after 1862. He married Mary Ann REEDY Helms aft 1862.

He was a resident in the census report in Talbot County, Ga., 1850. Archibald Helms: 1850 Talbot Co GA Census in the household of Allen Helms & Ann (was married within the year} 22nd Dist hh # 466/ fam # 466 and also Martha was there.

Archibald was the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Rough Edge, Talbot County, Ga., GMD 904, Rough Edge Post Office Centre, Household 606, family 601. Archibald was a farmer. His children included Joseph J. Helms b. 1851; Samuel b. 1852; Margaret b. 1854; John b. 1856; Archibald b. 1858; and Sarah A., b. 1859. See Talbot County History.

He is not the A.A. Helms who was in the Co. I, 51st Reg., Ga. Vol. Inf., Army N. Va., Clay County Volunteers. That man was b. 1841.

Archibald A. HELMS sr and Martha Jane HELMS had the following children:

10 i. Joseph J.³ HELMS was born in Talbot County, Ga. 1851.

11 ii. Samuel HELMS was born in Talbot County, Ga. 1852.

12 iii. Margaret HELMS was born in Talbot County, Ga. 1854.

13 iv. John C. HELMS was born in Talbot County, Ga. 1856. He married Martha M. PYRON Helms. Martha was born in Union County, N.C. 1862. She was the daughter of Samuel PYRON and Clarinda HELMS Pyron. Martha died 1946.

14 v. Archibald A. HELMS jr was born in Talbot County, Ga. 1858.

15 vi. Sara Antonet HELMS Allen was born in Talbot County, Ga. about 1859. She married John Thomas ALLEN in Talbot County, Ga., 30 JAN 1876.

16 vii. Janie E. HELMS was born in Georgia before 31 OCT 1862. Janie was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in Rough Edge, Talbot County, Ga.. Jane, 8, b. Ga., is listed as the HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD in the Roughedge District of Talbot County on the 1870 Georgia Census. M953, roll 175, p. 146. (she may have been listed at the top of one page with Archibald's family beginning on the preceding page) Possibly born on or about Oct. 31 if her mother died in childbirth.
