William Locke
William H. Locke, born January 20, 1817 in Parish of Morbeth, Devonshire, England. He died January 30, 1892 in Olmsted Falls, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Married Mary Ann Williams, March 23, 1838 in England.

After Mary Ann's death, he married Pauline Coy of Olmsted Falls.

Mary Ann Williams
Mary Ann Williams, born November 18, 1812 in England. She died March 23, 1880 in Olmsted Falls, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

She was the daughter of Samuel Williams, who died in 1860, and Nancy Rogers Williams, who died in 1867. They had 8 children, 5 of whom came to America - 3 stayed in England. Follow the link for the Williams Family History.

According to family information, William came to America first to find a home, in 1848 or 1849. Mary Ann and the children sailed from England in April, 1849, when their daughter Mary Jane was only a few months old. During the voyage, Mary Ann held her baby the whole time, because she was so sick. She was afraid that if she put her down, she would be thrown overboard after death. During the crossing, the family stories say that she was spoon-fed whisky from a bowl by the captian of the ship, William Bulley. After a difficult voyage of 6 weeks and 3 days, they landed (according to one account) in New York and went by train to Rochester. Another account has them landing at Halifax in the summer of 1849, going to New York, and then boarding a train, taking it as far west as they could - to Rochester, New York. It was there, William Locke met the family and transported them to Columbia, Lorain County by Ox cart.
