Family History:

Wadkins-Watkins Line

The history of my family line, as traced so far, started in July 1760 in Salsberry, Rowan County, North Carolina with the birth of Benedict Watkins, Sr. Very little history has been found on Benedict yet. Benedict married Barbara Stanley and they traveled to Kentucky. Between 1832 and 1835 Benedict fought in the Revolutionary War. In May 1830 Benedict and Barbara had a son, James Monroe Wadkins. James grew up in Floyd County, Kentucky where he married Mary Elizabeth Poe in 1851. In 1862 James and Mary had a son, John Wadkins. John also grew up in Floyd County, Kentucky where he married Rose Ann Perkins in 1896. In September 1886 John and Rose had a son, Noah Wadkins. Noah grew up in Floyd and Magoffin County, Kentucky where he married Susanna Fletcher in September 1912. In March 1931 Noah and Susanna had a son, Callaway Wadkins. Callaway also known as Cally, grew up in McGuffen County, Kentucky and later traveled to Branch County, Michigan. Near the age of 19, Cally then traveled to Huron County, Ohio where in September 1956 he married Patricia Pitcock.

Pitcock Line

The history of the Pitcock family, as traced so far, started in the mid 1800's with the birth of Thomas A. Pitcock on March 23, 1854 in Virginia. Thomas traveled to Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland where he married Annie E. (unknown last name and date) and had 9 known children. Their 7th born, William Gerard Pitcock, Sr. traveled to Ohio and married Lydia Jenkins, date and location unknown. William and Lydia had 5 known children. Their first born William Thomas Pitcock, Jr. married Gertrude Teresa Szegedy, date and location unknown and they had 3 children. Their youngest Patricia Pitcock married Callaway (Cally) Watkins on September 15, 1956 in Willard, Huron County, Ohio.

Szegedy Line

The history of the Szegedy family, as traced so far, started in the late 1870's with the birth of Victor Szegedy on Sunday, May 11, 1879 in Sayovarkony, Hungary. Victor was the son of Ladislav Szegedy and Lydia Csak. Ships logs and microfilm records show that Victor departed from Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands, in 1908 and arrived in New York on January 10, 1911. Court records show that Victor was naturalized in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA, on January 15, 1913. Common Pleas Court, Cuyahoga County, Ohio: Page 449, No. 12049; Declaration Of Intention. At the age of 34, Victor married Catherine Spenkelink, the daughter of John Spenkelink and Catherine Beucheron, on Monday, August 11, 1913, in Cuyahoga when she was 21 years old. Catherine Spenkelink was born in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, on Tuesday, March 15, 1892,

Victor and Catherine had 4 children, Kathryn who was born on February 27, 1914, Michael who was born on November 10, 1915, Gertrude, my grandma, who was born December 29, 1916, and George who was born in in 1919.

In early March 1924, Catherine unexpectly became sick and later died on March 27, 1924. Catherine's death certificate shows that she died of complations from a miscarrage at 3:40 am. Victor's death certificate shows that he died 5 months after Catherine from Chronic Endocarditis on August 19, 1924. Victor was buried at Lulu Falls Cemetery in Kingsville on August 20, 1924.

Census records show that shortly after Victors death all 4 of the children were placed in the Parmadale Orphanage in Cleveland, Ohio until they became of age. George however, died on Feburary 3, 1925 and was burried at Mound Hill Cemetery in Gallipolis Township, Ohio on Feburary 6, 1925.

Fletcher Line

The history of the Fletcher family, as traced so far, started in the late 1700s in North Carolina with the marriage of Epperson Fletcher to Elizabeth Unknown, date and location also unknown. Epperson and Elizabeth had a son, George Fletcher whom married Louisa Marshall on June 24, 1819 in Floyd County, Kentucky. George and Louisa had 11 children. Their first born, Issac C. Fletcher married Susannah Gilbert on January 04, 1844 in Floyd County, Kentucky and they had 10 children. Their 6th born, George W. Fletcher married Bashie Adams on November 18, 1888 in Magoffin County, Kentucky and they had 6 children. Their 4th born, Susanna (Susie) Fletcher married Noah Watkins on September 07, 1912 in Magoffin County, Kentucky and they had 12 children. Noah and Susie traveled to Ohio and then to Michigan where Noah died in September 1953.
