The Story: According to family tradition Eliza's grandmother was Lady Nancy [Brown?], a red headed woman. She married the village blacksmith's son. Her family disowned her. They had a son who was a curate in the Anglican Church. He left for Canada in 1809 [probable mistake in date]. He and his wife and some of the children died of Diphtheria on board ship. Elizabeth married Coporal John Chance. (Coporal John Chance was born in Oct 1808 in , , , England,2 3 died on 23 Jun 1882 in Woodstock, Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada 2 4 and was buried on 25 Jun 1882 in Anglican Cemetery, Woodstock, Oxford Co., Ontario.) |
