Simon William Charron-Sharrow's Civil War Documents

Simon William Charron was probably born in St. Pierre Parish, Tilbury, Ontario and migrated to the east coast of Michigan, possibly working in the lumbering industry around Saginaw and Bay City. He met his future wife, Elizabeth Armstrong, whom he married in 1858 at Bay City, Michigan

We currently have photocopies of Civil War documents, showing Simon's enlistment on 24 December, 1863 into Company E, 4th Michigan Cavalry as a private. He was then living in Tawas, Michigan.

Different payroll clerks variously recorded his surname as Charrow, Cherron, Carrow, and Sharrow.

He received a medical discharge on June 15, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky, becuase of "chronic rheumatism contracted in August 1864 at Columbia, Tennessee in the duty and service of the United States. He is one guarter disabled and his physical condition is not suitable for the Veteran's Reserve Corps". He had been hospitalized since February at the U.S. Army General Hospital in Covington, Kentucky.
