I live in San Francisco, a city with many Fongs. The family association of Louie, Fong & Kwong is located at 806 Clay Street in Chinatown. My dad, John Fong was an active member of the association until his death in 2001. When he passed away he left behind a binder of the Fong family tree. The first Fong was a princess consort and the Emporer gave him the name Fong and a territory for him to live and govern. As I looked through the binder I discovered that I am a 33rd generation Fong and that makes the Fong history of approximately 600 hundred years. I am from the southern province of Guangtung and county of Kaiping. There Fongs who hail from all different parts of China and they are scattered all over the world as well. You can find the Louie, Fong & Kwong family association all over the world in most major cities if you want to trace your family history. Good luck with your search because it is fascinating!
