My name is Zhang XinZhen and I know the name means precious pearl the way I write it, but the way many others write it it can mean many different things. Most Chinese names are unique, unlike in America where names like Stephanie and Mary are common.

: : hi ther. the meaning of ur name toi lin would depend on how it is written so i cannot help u there. however, soo hoo is an uncommon chinese surname. the meaning or history behind the name i m toldtraces its roots to way back in history, somewhere a round 500 BC thats real long ago. apperently, it was the title of a post likened to a cultural minister of sorts, something akin to a prime minister back then. it is said that all who took the post changed their family name to the official title. thus sze too or soo hoo was founded. it goes on to say that i of the minister succeeded his emperor n later started the tradition of a father passing on his position to his son.
: : : : Does anyone know what Toi Lin means in Cantonese? I have been told two different things and both weren't real sure. Also, grandfather was from Canton, China and his name on passport is Soo Hoo Fat, anyone know anything about his name?
: : : : Thank you.

: : : My middle name is Toi Lin and my sisters name is Toi Mei. My father speaks Cantonese but we are unsure what our names mean. I am wondering what the 2 different meanings you have been given are. My mother thinks Toi Lin may mean something like "small and petite".

: Hi. I'm not sure what the differences are between chinese and cantonese, nor am I sure that what I've been told is correct. I have been told the "Mei" in my name is "beautiful". My sister, "Mei Lin" was told her name meant "eternal beauty"...we're both small and petite, though! Hahaha!! Incidentally, my chinese family name is "Lin" and I don't have a clue how to find anything about my grandfather or his family. Could someone tell me where to begin? I found this by accident!
: Thanks,
: Meiyu
