: : Hi, I live in Los Angeles, California, but I was born in Peru(South America). My father was born in Canton, China and also I have some relatives living in Canton, but I never had contact with them. I am very interested to know more about the origin, history, etc. of the Yong family or surname. Also I would like to contact other Yong members around the world.
: : Thank you!

: Emperor Huang Di, not Chin Huang Di who came much later, was credited with creating China's 100 surnames. Anyone coming from any one of these surnames had the right to become ruler of China. When looking for the real origins of "Chinese" surnames, though, one must look to other sources. If you want to know the true origin of the surname Yong, Young, or Yang, it goes back to the Shang Dynasty and to the Shang's Shemite background. More information can be found in genealogy format at http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Courtyard/1535/cha_pu.html. Lookup the section on the Shang Dynasty genealogy.
