I have a cousin (my mother's older sister) who was born in Baker.
As the story goes, the family was originally Lock/ Locke but had to "maaih ji" (as "Lee") to get into the USA.
Was also rumoured that the Patriarch Lee dealt in opium.
I traveled through eastern Oregon this summer and visited a Chinese museum near Baker. Most of the Chinese in eastern Oregon were railroad workers.
