Hi angela,

Al Chinn is right to say that Ngo in mandarin is Wu. Culturally, Ngo can also be understood to belong to the surname of Goh or Ng depending on which ethnic. In Malaysia in particular Malacca, there is a small Chinese community of Lui Chew with the surname of Ngo. They speak the dialect of lui chew. Historically they came from the province of LUI CHEW IN MAINLAND CHINA, adjacent to Hainan Island.Majority of the first generation of Lui Chew in Malaysia were farmers. But with education and other opportunities, they are many successful lui chew in commercial and service industries such as doctors, lawyers, academician. There is also a Lui Chew Association and Ngo/Wu/Goh Association in Malacca. Perhaps you and your family have relative in the province of Lui Chew in China AND that may possibly linked us as relative, historically.
