Thelma,
I'm Raymond from one of your previous posting. How did you conclude that your family name is Achiu? Your family name is either Leong or Chiu/Chu. I believe the surname is Leong because many Chinese refer to a person with the prefix "Ah" or "A" using mostly their GIVEN NAME. In this case the given name would be Chiu, thus "Achiu". I believe the Chinese character for Leong is . This is just my speculation.
I was again snooping in the Kapolei Public Library and came across a Chinese in Hawaii genealogy book with references to Leong and Achiu names in Waialua (Researching One's Chinese Roots - Proceedings of the 1985 Genealogy Conference in Hawaii, edited by Kum Pui Lai and Violet Lau Lai. Perhaps you are already aware of this, but the following are excerpts from a paper written by Jacob Ng (member of See Yup Society and President and District Governor of the Lions Club in Waialua) and may be of interest to you:
"Leong Dai Chi operated the grocery store located at the present site of the Chevron Station in Waialua."
"Achiu Brothers Store was the first Chinese store in the 1920s on the sugar plantation. It was located across the street from the Otake Store in Waialua. The early store had no modern refrigeration and depended on ice blocks. It was distinguished by a large sign of Chinese calligraphy on red background. Mrs. Achiu had small bound feet. The children were Tin Fun, Tin Hop, and Walter Achiu, a famous Chinese wrestler."
"Tim Fung and Tin Hop Achiu were ranchers in Waialua."
Also of interest is mention of a temple and the Tai Sing Society located in Haleiwa at Waialua Beach Road near Weed Junction, and the purpose of the Society was to maintain a cemetery for the Chinese.
Finally, State Representative Joseph Leong and family is mentioned among others as Chinese presently living in Waialua.
Thelma, the above information provides key leads for you to follow up, if you had not done so already. Again, good luck in your continuing genealogical search.
Raymond
