I assume that you suspect that your grandfather might have left a family behind in Australia when he returned to China, and I also assume that you do not know what other family members your grandfather might have had in China. As you may know, most villages in China are dominated by a specific family clan name.
I looked up your Ng surname in the Village Database website (http://www.c-c-c.org/villagedb/search.cgi) and found the following information about your grandfather's village: Name of County: ��ɽ / Chung Shan / Zh��ng Sh��n; Name of Market Town: ��ɽ�l / Kay Shan Heung containing 9 villages; Name of your grandfather's village: �ϴ� / Nam Chuen; Dominant family clan names in the village: ��,�� / NG, CHO
Each family clan surname in the village normally keeps a genealogy book called a zupu ("jook po" in local dialect Cantonese). Most likely your ancestral village will have a zupu of the Ng family clan.....and most likely your grandfather's name will be in it along with information about members of his family. The zupu is written in Chinese, so you will need someone to interpret it if you do not read Chinese. Anyway, absent of additional genealogical leads, you may need to pay a visit to your ancestral village. Make sure you bring with you the name of your grandfather written in Chinese characters.
