well, it all depends on what part of china your ancestors are from. my last name is lai but my father's family is from canton. so i pronounce it "lie" in cantonese. but i speak mandarin so when people ask, i say "lee".
if you can find out what part of china your surname originated from, then you will have a better chance of obtaining the correct pronunciation.
