Dear Rick,

Hi! I am Damian Yap. I am a Singaporean doing my PhD in London. Anyway, I was also trying to research into my family history.

I am a forth generation Yap. My great great-grandfather was Kuomingtang General Yap Guan Song who came to Singapore in the 1900s or thereabouts. His son was my grandfather Yap Kim Swee and he had 12 children of which only 3 survived the Japanese occupation. My father Yap Eng Yong is the youngest.

I am very interested in finding out and visiting my family in China but my relatives have not kept in touch. At least I know that they are Hokkien - from the province of Fukien (or Fujian) - that narrows it down to 40 million (out of 1.2 billion!).

Well, please let me know how your progress is getting on and we can compare notes. We definately must be related hundreds of generations ago!

Yours sincerely,
Damian Yap
