Unfortunately my chinese last name was mutilated by

the Immigration office when my family officially got permission to live here.

I've always assumed the spelling was suppossed to be Liu, (many people want to say lew).

so the question is there anyone out there with this similar problem... I have relatives all over NYC and San Diego, but they arent Liu's.
SO I'm really not sure what the correct transliteration of the name should be...
any suggestions?
